Combating Creator Burnout

In the early 2000’s Amazon lost a huge portion of its market cap. They faced a financing crunch. After nearly a decade in business, struggles were abundant. When asked about that time, Jeff Bezos points out that the fundamentals of the business were improving despite these negative signals. And that is the best advice against creator burnout.

Metrics go up and down. Sometimes you see rapid expansion and other times it’s a slog. But if you can find a way to focus on the core fundamentals of your business, your content, your output, then burnout will be held at bay. I’ve never seen someone who truly worked on their craft, improved every day, and stayed consistent, not eventually succeed. Without fail, you will make it if you do those things. But the difference between those who make it through and those who don’t is where they look for their source of strength.

If the source of strength is your fundamentals, burnout will stay away, if it’s the metrics, burnout is almost certain.
