A friend told me they sent a document to coworkers. It was full of typos and grammatical errors, and people said thank you. This is where we’re at in the world. The sigh of relief knowing that something is written by a person and not AI can be heard around the world, and it’s starting to reverberate.
Over on Instagram the new “hot thing” is to just talk to the camera with what you actually think. Editing, fancy footage, crazy stunts, people are over it. AI has infiltrated our world to such a level that people are craving something, anything, real. But what is real? Real is thinking, and thinking is the filtering of information you consume as you go about your day, your lived experiences turned into original ideas that come from your brain.
And I know, nothing is really original, every idea has been had before. But your perspective on that idea, your thinking about that idea, your experience of what happened, those things are unique to each human being. And that is what people find to be interesting.
So it all starts here, in the quiet parts of your mind, where original ideas come from. And everything else proliferates out from there. Every product, every service offering, every piece of content, it’s unique in the sense that your thinking is unique. But if we forget how to think, nothing will be unique. Because AI doesn’t think, it cannot be unique. AI does not live in the world, walking around picking up experiences and stories and inspiration. AI does not filter those inputs and come up with original thoughts.
If and when everything becomes easy to build, the differentiator will not be what you build, but how you build it. And how you build it comes from the ability to have original thought.
